Best of Roberto Bolaño

Chilean author Roberto Bolaño is one of my favourite novelists. His style is direct, personal, seemingly not too interested in detailed descriptions, which gives his writing a wonderful dynamic and energy. His two masterpieces are "The Savage Detectives" and "2666", two very different novels. The first describes the lives of students/travellers in Europe and the second describes an endless list of rapes and murders of young women in Mexico. Many of his stories could well be used for comic books. Anything is possible, and plots can take sudden and unexpected twists. A creative mind at work, whose love for writing is tangible in every sentence. His first novel was published only late in this life, and that was not his main goal. Many of his titles and stories have been published after his death in 2003.
